President’s Letter

The Greenville Jewish Federation focuses primarily on our local Upstate community through cultural programming and education. I believe the best way to respect and dignify all people is through education. Therefore, our Federation seeks to stand strong within our community by educating, inspiring, and connecting people. We are essentially a grass-roots organization comprised of volunteers committed to creating a unifying presence for all Jews in the area regardless of how they identify or choose to affiliate.

Culturally, we connect through food, humor, music, and dance so many programs focus on the joys of contemporary Judaism.

However, many of our programs strive to promote the values of tikkun olam (repairing the world) and tzedakah (charity and social justice). Presently, GJF is working to create a core group of people and a fund to function as a “safety net” for anyone in our community who is in need, much like more traditional Jewish Family Services would provide. If you or someone you know would like to help with this, please contact us.

As a community and as a people we have a responsibility, not only to our local Greenville community but also to Jews all over the world, regardless of distance. This is an integral part of Jewish life and Federation’s work. Thus, a portion of donations is provided to the Jewish Federation of North America (JFNA) in support of Israel.
