Jewish Family Services Social Worker
The Greenville Jewish Federation, our Board of Directors, and our Jewish Family Services Committee seek a dynamic Social Worker with a passion for helping individuals and families of all life stages cope with and solve everyday problems utilizing assessment, by providing information, through referrals, and case management.

The Greenville Jewish Federation is a non-profit promoting the Jewish values of tikkun olam (repairing the world), Tzedakah (charity and social justice), and Torah (Jewish learning) through educational, social, and cultural programming for the Jewish community and their neighbors in the Upstate of SC and beyond.
ABOUT JEWISH FAMILY SERVICES
Jewish Family Services of the Upstate, a new program of The Greenville Jewish Federation is committed to providing a broad range of social support services to adults and families of all faiths – with a particular focus on the needs of the aging population and other underserved groups.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Jewish Family Services Social Worker is self-directed, organized, possesses well-developed cultural and interpersonal competencies, is results-oriented, and is comfortable engaging and interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds. The social worker will serve as the client’s advocate, helping to develop and support plans to improve the client’s well-being.
The social worker will focus primarily on information and referral for challenges related to mental health, crises, housing, food, transportation, disabilities, and issues of aging. Case management services in addition to information and referral for resources including long-term care placement, respite services, medical & mental health needs, in-home assistance, and caregiver support. The social worker provides an initial assessment, sets goals with the client, and develops a person-centered service plan to achieve goals.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs assessments for potential clients seeking social services and/or identified to need services
- Respond to clients in crises
- Determine the nature of the client’s situation and needs
- Visit client homes and accompany them to appointments (case-based)
- Establishes a course of action by exploring options and setting goals with the client
- Coordinate and communicate referrals for clients to community resources; including arranging for appointments and establishing rapport with other agencies
- Fosters client’s action or adjustment by interpreting attitudes and patterns of behavior, explaining and suggesting new options
- Maintain records of case by documenting the client’s situation and client’s actions
- Monitor planned actions by periodic follow-up
- Maintain operations by following policies and procedures, participating in quality reviews, and reporting needed changes
- Comply with federal, state and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions
- Maintain client confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
- Engage in community outreach and advocacy
- Plan client and community programs to support the mission and goals of Jewish Family Services
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from an accredited institution
- Minimum 3 years related experience, minimum 5 years preferred
- Eligible for or actively licensed in South Carolina to practice social work
- Familiarity and comfort with SC requirements for Social Workers and related agencies
- Knowledge of and comfort for managing cases involving Jewish culture, religious laws and practices
- Must be self-motivated and self-directive, able to work independently
- Able to handle job pressures and stay objective to meet client needs
- Able to maintain confidentiality
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong time management skills
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Experience and comfort with Microsoft Office and/or Google productivity tools
- Extensive appreciation of Judaism and the culture, traditions, and values of the Jewish people
- Existing knowledge of and connections to local community resources
COMPENSATION
This wonderful opportunity offers the ability to make a significant impact in initiating and growing Jewish Family Services as a program of Greenville Jewish Federation. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualification starting as hourly with growth potential to full time salaried.
